Making eco friendly purchases can go a long way to helping ease the problem of pollution and encourage the planet’s sustainability. While it may feel good to purchase items with an eco friendly label on them, it is important to recognize the fact that many of the labels are unfounded. As there is no standardization of eco friendly labels, many companies will attach this label to their products in order to appeal to environmentally aware individuals.

When trying to determine if a product is eco friendly, you need to consider if the product causes lasting harm to the environment, causes harm to the environment when used, and whether or not it causes harm to the environment when it is disposed of. These three factors must be met in order for it to be considered eco friendly. In some cases, companies will attempt to label their products as eco friendly when only one of these conditions have been met. As the general consensus is that the eco friendly label is useless, reform is underway to improve the labeling system.

If you are truly interested in eco friendly goods, you should consider using alternative power sources. Solar panels on the roof of your home, as an example, is an excellent eco friendly solution. A wave generator that damages fisheries and delicate ocean eco systems would not be classified as eco friendly. Solar panel farms that take up agricultural land would also not count as eco friendly, as it destroys renewable food sources.
